Our Story
The Tree of Life
Across the ancient savannahs of Africa, one tree stands apart from all others. The baobab —Adansonia digitata — is not merely a tree. It is a living monument to endurance, generosity, and the quiet power of deep roots.
Some baobabs alive today were already ancient when the Roman Empire fell. They have witnessed the rise and fall of kingdoms, the turning of centuries, and the slow drift of continents. The oldest known specimen is believed to be over 6,000 years old — making it one of the oldest living organisms on Earth.
The baobab's trunk can swell to over 10 metres in diameter, storing up to 120,000 litres of water within its fibrous wood — a reservoir that sustains entire ecosystems through the driest of seasons. Elephants, baboons, and hundreds of species of birds and insects depend on it for food, water, and shelter.
"The baobab gives without asking. It endures without complaint. It stands alone and yet sustains everything around it."
In many African cultures, the baobab tree is known as the Tree of Life — a symbol of strength, resilience, and community. During the rainy season, it stores water deep within its trunk, sustaining life when the dry months arrive. It stands strong through difficult seasons and becomes a source of shelter and nourishment when it's needed most.
Traditionally, communities gathered beneath its wide canopy. Elders would meet to reflect, share wisdom, and discuss how to become better leaders. Later, the wider community would come together there — to eat, drink, tell stories, and strengthen their bonds.
The baobab was more than a tree; it was a gathering place.
Baobab Coffee is built on this idea.
Our coffee van represents the baobab tree. Its open doors mirror the canopy — welcoming, inclusive, and designed to bring people together. We set out to create more than just great coffee. We wanted to create a space where people can pause, connect, and reflect — even if only for a few moments in their day.
Welcome to the tribe.

How We Began
Baobab Coffee was founded on a simple but uncompromising belief: that truly great coffee should not be confined to a fixed address. The world's best experiences are mobile — they come to you, they surprise you, they become part of the story you tell.
We chose the Piaggio Ape because it is, in its own way, a baobab: unconventional, characterful, and instantly beloved. Converted to full electric operation, our van carries professional-grade espresso equipment that would be at home in the finest specialty coffee shops in the world.
Our baristas are trained to the highest standards — not just in the craft of coffee, but in the art of hospitality. They understand that every cup is an opportunity to create a moment, and they approach each one with that intention.
We source our beans from single-origin farms with whom we have direct relationships, ensuring that every cup reflects the character of its terroir and the care of the people who grew it.
What We Stand For
Every bean is sourced with intention. Every cup is crafted with care. We believe that quality is not a feature — it is the foundation.
Our electric van produces zero emissions. Our beans are ethically sourced. Our cups are compostable. We take our responsibility to the planet seriously.
Coffee is a social ritual. We approach every event with warmth, professionalism, and a genuine desire to make your guests feel exceptional.
We will never sacrifice craft for speed. Our 50 cups per hour capacity is achieved without shortcuts — just skill, preparation, and great equipment.
The Coffee
We work exclusively with single-origin beans from farms we know and trust. Each origin is selected for its distinctive character — whether that's the bright, floral notes of an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or the deep, chocolatey richness of a Colombian Huila.
Our rotating seasonal menu means that the coffee you experience at one event may be entirely different from the next — always exceptional, always intentional, always a conversation starter.
We are committed to direct trade relationships wherever possible, ensuring that the farmers who grow our coffee and our roasters who roast our beans receive fair compensation for their extraordinary work.
